Getting our Paint on

As I mentioned last time we have been decorating for the last few days. That started with sanding the floors so we could paint them, and then painting the walls.

After much deliberating we picked a colour for the bedroom and got to painting it on our last day of holidays and although we are still living in chaos before we move back in we are really happy with it so far. We picked Atlantic Surf by Dulux, its one of those mix it for you as we decided that we weren't keen on any of the samples we tried out.

Rodney gets up the ladder and does the edges near the ceiling, whilst I do the lower parts of the wall and the edges near the trim. Here is us half way through, I was powering through while poor Rodney was taping off the ceiling edges. I hate being up the ladder, our ceilings are so high it involves quite a bit of stretching which feels wobbly and unstable.

PS. Check out the bed in the hallway, that was responsible for my bruised toe last night.

And here is Rodney up the ladder being careful not to get blue paint on the ceiling, it is difficult in such an old flat as the walls and ceilings are uneven.

And here it is all finished:

It is very different from the more muted colours we have else where in the flat but so far we really like the change and think once all our furniture is back in it will be cosier and a bit exotic.

We have since painted the floors white (more on that later) and plan on painting the trim and window frames white which will help the room feel light despite the darker walls. We are also planning on keeping the curtains and bed linen lighter, so that it is not too overwhelming.

What do you think? Anyone else been brave enough to try a bold colour in their home?

  2. I love it ! It is really happy and bright.
And we've tried bold colors everywhere: an apple green kitchen wall, light aqua in our bedroom, our bright yellow cabinet, all our doors are a turquoise kind of green and we even got a pink chimney thing.
    Yay for color.
I am excited for the rest !

    1. Wow that sounds awesome! I think next time around I will be more bold, I thought I liked things all quite calm and neutral but actually really love the bold colours. xox

  3. This is going to sound really odd but, I love that window! I rent my house so can't do any big changes but I like the idea of using quite a dark colour in a room to make it cosy, then using loads of different lighting...ahhh daydreams of something other than magnolia!

    1. Ah boo! Can you add some wall hangings or curtains or something to break up the magnolia? I remember being in our rented flat and daydreaming constantly of the wonderful ways we could redecorate it!! xox
